LegalZoom Charges $249 a Year. Michigan's Own Fees Cost Less.

Get resident agent representation in Michigan for $99 annually. The price covers the registered office address, same-day scanning of legal documents, and state-deadline alerts.

We are not a neutral reviewer and will not pose as one. MI Registered Agent.org holds Michigan resident agent appointments for $99 a year, which means a page setting us beside LegalZoom was written by the party that profits if you move. The pricing quoted below is LegalZoom's own, captured during a July 2026 check and left unedited.

The Brand Is a Real Asset

No company selling legal services to consumers carries a more familiar name, and familiarity has value. Two decades of advertising have produced a company most owners have already heard of, with one account covering formation, trademark work, estate documents, and agent service together. Consolidating vendors has value. So does buying from a company you can describe to your accountant in one word. We are a specialist with a single line item, and for some buyers that is the wrong shape entirely.

$249, Flat, and It Renews Itself

LegalZoom prices registered agent service at $249 a year. The rate holds flat, renewal happens on its own, and no opening discount surfaced anywhere in our July 2026 review. That is the highest fixed annual rate among the services we track. It is not bait pricing and there is no second number waiting in year two, which we count in its favor. It is simply an expensive way to buy a narrow service, and the automatic renewal means the decision to keep paying it gets made by default rather than by you.

Michigan itself supplies a useful yardstick. The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs charges $50 to bring an LLC into existence, $25 for the annual statement each February 15, and $5 to move the resident agent role to a different company. Add those three and the state's total price for creating a company, keeping it current for a year, and handing the agent role to somebody else comes to $80. LegalZoom's annual fee for occupying one address line is $249.

Seven hundred fifty dollars separates the two columns over five years. Michigan asks the identical duty of both.

What the $99 Covers

A flat annual rate, unchanged at renewal, and the list attached to it is short by design. Anything a process server hands us at our Michigan office is scanned and posted to your portal before that business day ends. Your alert goes out at the same moment. The public agent line on your state record carries our address rather than the one where you sleep. February 15 gets flagged for you in advance. There is no upgrade tier, because there is no second version of this service to sell you.

The word we avoid is cheapest. BetterLegal publishes $90 annually, below our figure, and it is better that you read that here than discover it somewhere else. Our accurate claim is narrower and more useful: among Michigan providers publishing a flat annual rate, $99 ranks near the bottom of the range and stays there for the life of the account.

What It Takes to Replace LegalZoom on the Michigan Record

A single certificate, numbered CSCL/CD-520, records the incoming resident agent with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and the state fee is $5. Michigan accepts the certificate online or through the mail.

A second route exists and is worth knowing about. Michigan's annual statement reprints the agent and office details currently on your record and invites you to correct them, so an agent change can ride along with that February filing rather than arriving as its own document. Owners whose LegalZoom anniversary falls near the deadline sometimes prefer to combine the two.

Either way, appoint before you cancel. LegalZoom keeps the appointment until the state enters the new certificate, and that certificate cannot be submitted without naming a successor, so the paperwork itself fixes the sequence. Engage the replacement, file, confirm the update, then close the old account. Our change of agent page sets out the rest of the detail.

Automatic renewal is the reason the calendar deserves attention. A $249 charge that posts without asking will keep posting until something interrupts it, and the interruption has to come from your side.
